Black Kitchen Cabinets - Gorgeous with the Right Decor

Do you love the color black? Do your kitchen cabinets need an uplift? Could your kitchen cabinets use a paint job? How about painting your kitchen cabinets black?

Before you leave the page frightened about even thinking about painting your kitchen cabinets black...let me give you some design tips and decorating ideas on how to use black in your kitchen properly.

You should first love (or at least, really like) the color black. As with any color you consider painting your kitchen cabinets, you should like it.

The way I see it, black - just like white - is a neutral color. It certainly is a dark neutral but, neutral nonetheless.

Think of your wardrobe. You probably have a pair of black pants, a black dress, a black skirt, a pair of black shoes.

Why? Because black goes with just about every other color - therefore, making it a neutral.

I should point out that black kitchen cabinets will work best with either a very modern decor or a rustic country like home decor.

If your cabinets are sleek and slab like without any moulded detailing, you are more likely to have a contemporary modern home decor look.

This type of cabinet would work well to make your space even more modern and masculine.

High gloss black cabinets will give you an ultra modern look. This would work well with sleek modern silver or nickel hardware and cool toned light colored walls.

If you do not want such a ultra modern look, you can use solid non-gloss black cabinets with some warmer tones such as a wooden butcher block counter top or an off-white, creamy paint color.

If your existing cabinets have more details including mouldings and or insets, then a rustic decor look will work better for you.

I would use a flatter black paint for the cabinets. This will give you a contemporary transitional look, which would be great for anyone who does not want to commit fully to one decor style or another.

For an even more rustic look, paint the kitchen cabinets a flat black and do some faux aging on the mouldings and insets. I personally love this look because it uses the color black in an unexpected way. We do not tend to think of rustic with a cool color like black.

This rustic black makes the rustic look even more unique with a bit more sophistication than aged wood cabinets.
